How to Create a Business That You Love
I love encouraging women entrepreneurs to start and grow businesses that support healing, family, community, and spiritual growth.
The most important thing to know when starting or building a business is: what is your big goal?
If you don't have a clear goal for your business then you are going to find yourself starting many different projects and diverting your energy in too many directions.
It's easy to say yes to every idea, invitation, request, and get side-tracked from your main mission if you are not carefully assessing every opportunity to make sure it is in alignment with your big goal.
One of the most common questions I get asked by women entrepreneurs in my courses and coaching programs is: how to figure out what to focus on when you have so many ideas for your business?
If you have a goal for your business, then test every idea and invitation with your goal to see if it aligns. That will help you know what to say yes to, what to say no to, and what to take note of for a later time.
We only have a finite number of hours each day. And while growing an awesome business is a wonderful thing, it's not the only thing that one should do. We all need time for rest, family, friends, and to cultivate the important relationships in our lives.
To grow a business that fulfills and exceeds your vision, as well as supports your whole life: health, home, family, community, and spirituality - you must have a clear goal to make your plan of action.
Staying focused on your goal is essential to scale your business, make a bigger impact in the world - and prevent burnout.
The factors to keep in mind when creating your goal are:
What do you want to do?
Where are you going with your business?
How big do you want your business to be?
What impact do you want to make in the world?
What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?
I highly recommend taking time to write down your goal for your business, and to place it in a visible spot in your office or home, where you can be reminded of it regularly.
Also, it's important to go back to your goal every 3 to 6 months and make sure you are still in alignment with the choices you've been making in your work, as well as to adapt and upgrade your goal as you go.
In the beginning, you may want to expand your business from local to international, or from being location-based to being location-independent. But then once you achieve that goal, you may find that you need to focus even more on how you want to impact others, rather than how you do your work.
You may have a goal to donate 10% of your income to philanthropical causes that are meaningful to you, but as you grow you may find that there are even bigger ways you can give and make a difference, and even more resources and skills that you can utilize to support your goals.
Goals can change and grow, but having a goal and staying focused on it is essential to growing your business and your impact.
