Soothing Bath Salts with Essential Oils Recipe
There is something so wonderful about a nice warm soak in a bath. Water has been renowned since ancient times, all over the world, for it’s healing powers.
Immersion in water, especially warm water creates a wonderful relaxation response, and is great for our health.
Around the world, hot mineral springs are some of the most prized soaking experiences. I adore visiting hot springs and the hot mineral rich water bubbling from the earth in these places are heralded for their healing benefits of calming the mind, soothing sore muscles, and providing a peaceful bathing experience.
However, you don’t need to go to a hot spring in the woods of Oregon or the mountains of British Columbia, to get the benefits of soaking. Any tub can become a mineral-rich spa experience to relax your muscles, body, and mind.

Epsom salts are crystallized magnesium sulfate, and when dissolved in hot water create a buoyant and silky mineral water bath in your own tub rich with magnesium. Magnesium may be absorbed through the skin, and magnesium deficiency may be related to increased PMS, menstrual cramps, and muscle aches.
Baking soda is good for the skin and mixes well with the Epsom salts to create the base of the bath salts.
The additional of avocado oil also adds to the moisturizing and softening effect of the bath soak recipe on the skin, it also dilutes the essential oils which provide aromatherapy and cleansing benefits.
The citrus scents of the bergamot, grapefruit, and tangerine essential oils are brightening to the mood, and increase happiness and wellbeing. The ylang ylang is relaxing and the Roman chamomile is calming to the nervous system.
This aromatherapy blend of essential oils creates a wonderfully soothing scent to create ease, peace, and clarity in one’s mind, body, and soul.
Soothing Bath Salts Recipe
3 c. Epsom salts
1/2 c. baking soda
3 Tbs. avocado oil
20 drops tangerine essential oil
10 drops grapefruit essential oil
10 drops bergamot essential oil
10 drops ylang ylang essential oil
3 drops Roman chamomile essential oil
Stir the Epsom salts and baking soda together in a large bowl.
Add the avocado oil and mix to coat evenly.
Add the essential oils and stir to mix well.
Store the prepared bath salts in a mason jar with a lid.
Add 1 to 2 c. of the aromatherapy bath salts to a hot bath while filling it up and stir to dissolve and combine.
Soak in the warm aromatic bath waters for 10 to 20 minutes, or as long as you want to.
A warm bath is a wonderful way to sooth the body and center the mind.
